One of my prayer assignments is Mongolia. By that, I mean the Lord directs me to pray for countries. Mongolia is one of six countries He has spoken to me and commissioned me to pray for. He teaches me things about them. In the case of Mongolia, the Lord said to pray for Mongolia like I would for my own children. As I pray, I also do some research about my assigned countries. Here are some interesting things I have put together. I am also including a link to a very sweet movie filmed on location in Mongolia. The events and scenes very closely resemble content I have read and seen in documentaries and articles.

There are so many factors so here are a few points of interest and for your consideration. Approximately 40% of Mongolians live a nomadic lifestyle in “gers” (yert tents). The nomads seem happy but are splitting up due to the temptations of modernization and the need to earn a living. Economic challenges hit in 2008 including severe weather claiming 20% of livestock. Nomads depend on their sheep to yield some of the world’s best cashmere. I think of how the nomadic movement resembles that of America’s native Americans. It seems mining is growing and overtaking nomad life. Vast coal and gold mines are growing with land disputes mostly won by the large mining companies. Here we go again! Trucks full of coal line the highways into China. Mongolia is landlocked between Russia and China. Please pray for Mongolia. I have a sense there are growing factors impacting its people.

One source I found indicated there were 4 known Christians in Mongolia in 1989. That has grown to over 40,000 but is still small compared to its 3.5 million population. Many of these people have never heard of Jesus.
