For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11

Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; taking this world as it is and not as I would have it; trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will;

So that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Amen.

− Reinhold Niebuhr

The Serenity Prayer has been very significant in my life.  As I was learning to pray, and as situations would manifest in my life, the Lord would show me a single line from this prayer as a way to view my circumstance. This prayer is used at Celebrate Recovery meetings.

Prayer Points

With my own simple but heartfelt request, I asked God to teach me to pray.  I am still His student.  Below are some treasures discovered in my journey.

Your heart condition matters

Acknowledge Jesus as the Master of your life.  “Lord Jesus, you are my only Redeemer and Savior.  I surrender my will to you.  Please teach me what your words mean and how they apply to my life.”

Desire to hear Him

You must REALLY desire to hear from the Lord and to share your innermost feelings. Jeremiah 29:13

Pray aloud the scriptures

There is power in speaking God’s Word. Declare God’s promises for your life. Example:  “Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.”  Jeremiah 17:14

Pray without ceasing

1 Thessalonians 5:17  You can pray in your car, in the bathroom, anywhere!  God is everywhere and will hear you.  Keep Him with you all day. Pray positively with expectation for God’s fighting your battles and the victory to be one. Don’t see your loved ones as broken but pray into their victory, and yours.

Listen
