Uncle Martin’s Porch Tales – The New Neighbors

Rejoin Uncle Martin and the children in this series as they encounter new neighbors in their small Smoky Mountain community. Uncle Martin joins the children during their school break and imparts wisdom about their new neighbors. Jesus said to love our neighbor as ourselves. This is a charming story for all ages and offers hope for your community.

I wrote this story just before we began to realize translocation of our people to avoid oppressive lockdowns and mask mandates in more liberal areas. In my home state of Florida, we experience much migration to our state from the areas of New York and neighboring states. With mobility comes challenge. While I believe people should be given a chance, we must also carefully move into new relationships. It is a journey that requires discernment from God. Not every new person can be trusted, but we can put on the lens of Christ and look and listen for God’s direction.

In my life, I have met many new people as a result of being a middle and high school teacher for 28 years. I heard many stories. My book also depicts the story of someone very special to me whom I left behind when we moved away. She is brought back into this story in a unique way.

Jesus said to be as a little child. In that, we see the purity of the lens of children when new neighbors come into this small-town community. I would be interested in hearing your stories too. Please feel free to comment or to write to us at [email protected].
